Subscription Didn't Run

Status is SKIPPED

Daily limit reached. On the free tier, Geo Data Connector allows up to 10 retrieval runs per day (UTC calendar day). If this limit is reached, additional runs are skipped. The subscription will run again on its next scheduled occurrence, or the next time you click Run Now after the counter resets at midnight UTC.

Check your current run count at Settings → Application Settings → Daily Ingestions.

If you are on the paid tier and runs are being skipped, contact support — skipping should not occur on the paid tier.

Status is FAILED

A failed run means Geo Data Connector encountered a problem retrieving the dataset. The subscription is automatically suspended when a run fails, to prevent repeated failed attempts.

To see what went wrong:

  1. Click the subscription row to open Subscription Details.
  2. Look at the run history. The failed run shows an error message explaining the issue in plain terms.
  3. Check the health indicator (coloured dot) next to the data source — if it is red or orange, the source may be temporarily unavailable.

Common causes and fixes:

SymptomLikely causeWhat to do
"The data source is not responding"The source service is temporarily downWait and try again later. Check the health indicator.
"Could not retrieve data from this dataset"The dataset's data access method changed or is incompatibleExplore the data source again; the dataset configuration may have changed.
"The dataset is too large"The row count exceeded the free tier limit (10,000)Upgrade to the paid tier, or choose a different dataset.
"Authentication failed"Credentials for a saved connection have changed or expiredUpdate the connection in Connections with the new credentials.

To retry after a failure:

  1. Go to the Subscriptions screen.
  2. Use the Enabled toggle to resume the subscription (toggle it back to ON).
  3. Click Run Now to start a new run immediately, or wait for the next scheduled run.

Status is RETRYING

The initial retrieval attempt did not complete, and Geo Data Connector is automatically trying again. The info icon next to the status shows the retry count (up to 2 retries) and the time of the next attempt.

No action is needed — wait for the retry to complete. If all retries are exhausted, the status changes to FAILED.

Status is IN PROGRESS but the run has been going for a long time

Retrieval time depends on the size of the dataset and the responsiveness of the source service. Large datasets can take several minutes. Check the current phase by hovering over the info icon next to the status.

If a run has been in the same phase for more than 15 minutes:

  1. Click Refresh on the Subscriptions screen to get the latest status.
  2. If the status is unchanged, check the health indicator for the data source.
  3. If the source appears healthy and the run is still stuck, contact support.

The Run Now button is greyed out or disabled

  • Subscription is disabled. Enable it with the toggle, then try Run Now.
  • A run is already in progress. Wait for it to complete.
  • Daily run limit reached (free tier). Wait until midnight UTC for the counter to reset.

Hover over the Run Now icon to see the tooltip explaining exactly why it is disabled.

A subscription was created but no run appears in the history

Immediately after creating a subscription, there is a brief window where the subscription shows status CREATED but the run has not yet appeared in the history list. Click Refresh — the run should appear within a few seconds.

Needs re-scope

A scoped subscription shows a Needs re-scope badge (and its status becomes INACTIVE, automatically suspended) when it has outgrown the area/resolution size budget it was created with. Data already retrieved is preserved and stays downloadable until its download link expires — nothing is lost, but the subscription won't produce further runs. A scope can't be edited, so the fix is always the same: create a new subscription with a smaller area or a coarser resolution.

The badge has two possible causes:

CauseWhat happenedWhat to do
The source dataset grewThe data source added enough new data that the subscription's frozen area/resolution no longer fits its original size budgetCreate a new scoped subscription with a smaller area or coarser resolution
Your account moved to the free tierThe scope no longer fits the free tier's scoped size budget (10,000 rows, fitted to the requested area/resolution)Upgrade to the paid tier, or create a new scoped subscription with a smaller area or coarser resolution

A scoped subscription couldn't be created

Creating a scoped subscription via the API can be rejected immediately, before any subscription is saved. Common reasons:

SymptomLikely causeWhat to do
"Scoped ingestion is not yet available for this source type or its tile grid"The data source type doesn't support scoped subscriptions yet, OR (for a tile dataset) it's published on a tile grid other than the supported WGS 84 (EPSG:4326) / Web Mercator (EPSG:3857) gridsSubscribe to the dataset's full extent instead, or check back later
"The requested scope is not valid"The requested area has no size, crosses the antimeridian, or doesn't overlap the dataset's extentCorrect the requested area and retry
"The dataset size could not be verified for scoped ingestion"Geo Data Connector couldn't confirm the size of the requested area/resolution in timeRetry the request; if it keeps happening, contact support
"The data source is temporarily unavailable"The data source couldn't be reached while verifying the requested scopeWait and retry
"This scoped dataset exceeds the Free edition's scoped-ingestion row limit"The requested area/resolution is estimated to exceed 10,000 rows (free tier)Request a smaller area or a coarser resolution, or upgrade
"The Free edition allows up to 3 scoped subscriptions per dataset"You already have 3 active scoped subscriptions on this dataset (free tier)Suspend or delete an existing scoped subscription on this dataset, or upgrade
